Why I built Delvio
After thirty years at the desk, I stopped waiting for better software.
I've prepared tax returns for three decades, and I've spent every season working around the same problems: software chained to one desktop, hours lost re-keying documents by hand, and the same client entered five different ways across five different tools.
And when something went wrong, I called tech support. The person who answered had been on the job for two months. Two or three escalations later I'd finally reach someone who knew the software, and three hours after I picked up the phone, I might have an answer.
So I built Delvio Tax the way I always wished it worked. Every feature in it exists because I needed it on a real return and couldn't buy it anywhere. It runs in your browser, it reads the documents for you, and when something's wrong, one click puts it in front of the people who fix it. No phone tree, no escalations.
It's software made by someone who still does this work — not a company that's never filed a Schedule C.

Most software conversions bring over names, addresses and little else. Delvio imports each client's complete prior-year return, not just the basic information, so you start the new season with last year's full return already in front of you.
Security
Built to be secure, because the stakes are real.
Your clients trust you with their Social Security numbers, bank accounts and income. Delvio is built to keep that trust, by a practicing CPA who carries the same IRS Publication 4557 and FTC Safeguards Rule obligations you do.
- Encrypted in transit and at rest. TLS 1.3 on every connection, encryption at rest, plus an extra layer of encryption on SSNs and bank account numbers.
- Multi-factor sign-in, required. Every user, every account. Not optional, not a setting.
- Firm-level isolation. Every record belongs to one firm, and every request is checked against it. One firm never sees another's data.
- An audit trail. A record of who viewed or changed each client record and return, and when.
- SOC 2 Type II–audited hosting. Render and Supabase (on AWS), in U.S. data centers only.
- Daily backups, tested restores. Backups run every day, and we've restored from them to prove they work.
- Authorized IRS e-file Provider. Delvio Tax is an IRS-authorized Software Developer and Transmitter.
- Taxpayer privacy under IRC §7216. Return information is handled under the federal law that governs it.
- Built by a CPA firm. One that practices under Treasury Circular 230, the same rules you work under.
